On February 26th, 2016, Satterfield & Pontikes Construction celebrated the completion of steel erection on Klein Independent School District’s new high school by hosting a traditional topping-out ceremony. The final steel beam was hoisted to the top of the structure with a fir tree and an American flag affixed. More than 300 attendees viewed the ceremony and were given commemorative t-shirts at an onsite luncheon.

S&P team members joined HISD for a recent community meeting showcasing the progress of Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy. The school, among HISD’s oldest school buildings, will undergo a $27.1 million renovation/addition that will expand learning spaces throughout the current building and add modern science and technology labs to enhance STEM curriculum.

HISD’s blog featured progress shots of two S&P projects this week. The Mandarin Chinese Language Immersion School in the Galleria area is a 19,000 square foot three-story building that will feature flexible learning spaces and is designed around the themes of the sun and the moon. The new school is slated to open in August 2016. Lee High School’s new 240,000-square-foot facility will include state-of-the-art technology with flexibility to allow for future upgrades. The two-story building will be divided into four neighborhood wings with open spaces and plenty of windows to maximize natural light. Students will continue to attend classes in the existing building throughout construction, which has a target completion of second quarter of 2017.

HISD recently hosted a community meeting showcasing what is to come with the ongoing renovation and construction project at Waltrip High School. The project is currently scheduled for completion in the fall of 2016.

S&P’s Florida team won USF SafetyFlorida’s Sunshine State Safety Recognition Award for our Janie’s Garden Apartment Project. The award is given to Florida employers and employees in all industries who proactively and routinely engage in job safety.

S&P hosted students from the Texas A&M Department of Construction Science in our Houston office. They had a Q&A session with President George A. Pontikes and our Houston Business Unit Leader Charlie Fote, a walk-through of BIM technology and our Assemble capabilities in our BIM cave, and a tour of the new Cypress Park High School project.
