S&P Completes New Micro Center Store

Micro Center Houston - Interior 1Satterfield & Pontikes Construction recently completed construction of the new Micro Center electronics store in the Galleria/Bellaire area. The new 32,000 square foot store replaces its previous 610 West Loop store near San Felipe. The $6 million project was constructed on a 3.5-acre site and is part of a larger retail development.

The new store, which opened for business on October 16, includes a large showroom with 50 percent more floor space that offers 40,000 items and 350 computing devices on display. New and expanded departments include a Build Your Own PC section, 3-D printers, do-it-yourself components, and a new Knowledge Bar offering free walk-up tech support.

Powers Brown Architects provided design and architectural services. The building features concrete tilt-wall panel construction with exterior finishes of stone and masonry veneer, metal panels and opaque glass storefront. Project work was performed by S&P’s Houston Business Unit. Construction was completed in less than six months and was delivered ahead of schedule.

A unique feature of the project is the 90-foot “tower” rising through the roof that displays the LED-lit Micro Center sign that changes colors at night. Project work also included new parking/paving with 300 vehicle parking spaces, sidewalks, utilities and supporting site improvements.

Klein ISD Selects S&P as CMAR for HS #5

Klein HS #5 EntryThe Klein Independent School District has selected Satterfield & Pontikes Construction to build a 650,000 square foot high school in northwest Houston. PBK Architects will provide design and architectural services for the school, which could open in 2017.

High School #5 will be built on 83 acres at the corner of Cutten Road and Spring Cypress Road. The school will be able to accommodate up to 3,500 students.

S&P Begins New Priests Home

Retired Priests Home groundbreaking 3The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston held groundbreaking ceremonies on September 21 to kick off construction of its new residence for retired priests located at 2407 Holcombe Blvd. near Almeda Road in Houston. Numerous area citizens and dignitaries attended the event, along with representatives from contractor Satterfield & Pontikes Construction (S&P), design firm EKLS Architecture, and program manager U.S. Builders. The Houston Business Unit of S&P will oversee construction of the 34,400-square-foot Archbishop Joseph A. Fiorenza Priest Retirement Residence. The new one-story facility will provide 24 living units, each with bedroom, living room, kitchen, and bathroom. S&P will also construct a central common building, which will provide a large living room, kitchen, dining room, administrative offices, chapel, theater and exercise room. The project also includes construction of a new parking area. The $7 million construction project is part of St. Dominic Village, Houston’s only Catholic retirement community.

S&P to Build New CFISD High School

Cy-Fair HS 11-aerial_smallSatterfield & Pontikes Construction has been awarded its biggest project yet by the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, a 592,000 square foot high school at FM 529 and Westgreen Boulevard to relieve overcrowding at schools in northwest Houston.

PBK Architects designed the school, which will accommodate 3,000 students and open in August2016. High School #11 will be part of a new 179-acre campus that will also include a middle school and an elementary school. The $128 million project consists of four buildings: a three-story academic wing, a community building for fine arts and indoor athletics, a dining facility and a central utility plant building. Satterfield & Pontikes will also construct baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts, soccer fields, track and field facilities and football fields.

Billy Earl Dade MS wins TEXO Award

Satterfield & Pontikes Construction’s (S&P) outstanding work on the Billy Earl Dade Middle School project was honored with a Merit award for construction excellence in the recent 2014 TEXO Distinguished Building Awards Competition. The project competed with entries in the $30-$75 million category submitted throughout the north and east Texas area.
