The 267,980 SF Armed Forces Reserve Center (AFRC) and Joint Vehicle Maintenance Facility (JVMF) was built on a 60-acre site at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The facilities serve members of the Texas Army National Guard, Army Reserves, and Marine Corps Reserves.

The 209,000 SF AFRC building is slab-on-grade with structural steel, metal deck and standing seam metal roof and provides assembly hall, classrooms, commercial kitchen and unit storage with arms vaults. The JVMF is a 45,830 SF building with vehicle maintenance bays and three overhead cranes, including a 15-ton crane with 67’ span, 7.5-ton crane with 75’ span, and 4.5-ton crane with 24’ span.

The buildings incorporate sustainable design elements such as lighting controls, energy-saving HVAC systems and controls, recycled building materials, and water-saving plumbing fixtures. S&P set up a BIM virtual studio at the project site for clash detection, schedule simulation of the structure and creating as-builts.
